PROSSER, WA - Staff from the first legal marijuana retail store is working hard to open their doors next month as the first retail shop in our region.
It is going to be called Altitude and the owners are working hard to get the doors open by early next month to be one of just a handful of legal marijuana retail stores opening around our region.
It is located on Merlot Drive in Prosser, and workers are getting ready for their soft opening on July 8th and their official grand opening in the third week of July.
Staff from the store said there will be several different strains of marijuana, many from local growers, for legal purchase.
Manel Valenzuela from Altitude said there have been mixed emotions about their opening, but what people need to realize is they're abiding by the laws and this will have a positive impact in the long-run.
"Regulated. It is highly regulated, so it's not like we're sitting here and just not really paying attention to what's going to be the negative effects and so forth for the community. If anything I think, in time, people that aren't to in tune with it will realize the positive effects overall," Valenzuela said.
75-percent of all sales will be taxed. 25-percent of that will go right back into the community including law enforcement and schools.
He also says about 50 jobs will be filled once the doors open.
The sale of legal marijuana is much like buying alcohol. If you want to buy it, you have to be 21-years-old and you must show a valid ID.
