FINELY, WA – Four brush fires started to burn at the same time around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon south of Kennewick along state route 397.

One of the biggest factors that helped the fires grow and had crews put to the test were the winds. Gusts constantly picked up and re-sparked flames. Fire crew trucks patrolled acres of mostly farmland and desert hills. 397 from the 82 overpasses and heading towards Finley was blocked off while crews worked to put out the last embers after containing the flames.

When we asked Benton County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Erik Magnuson if he knew whether the fires were connected or started by the same cause he explained, "At this time I don't have information for that. All I know is that anytime we have a fire we are going to look into it and we are going to investigate it. It looks like all the fires are contained. There doesn't seem to be any danger towards any structures or the public."

As part of their investigation officials say they will try to determine how the fires started in the coming days.
