Firefighters Investigating Suspicious Tire Fire in Yakima

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA - Firefighters in Yakima are trying to figure out what caused a tire fire at the Affordable Tire Center in Downtown Yakima.  The fire started just after 4:00 a.m. at the tire repair center on West Mead Ave.

Firefighters said it started in a pile of tires on the side of the building and then spread to the front of the building causing some damage inside.  Firefighters say the fire is suspicious and are investigating.

Firefighters were originally responding to a car fire a few blocks away when they got the call for the tire fire.

They do not know if the two incidents are related, but they are suspecting arson because they say a pile of tire does not just burst into flames.

Crews put the flames out quickly, but said it was a very dangerous situation because when tires are on fire, the produce toxic fume, black smoke and a lot more heat and flames than a regular structure fire.

No one was injured.
