JUST ASK SHANE: Update on Kennewick Vision Care Building
KENNEWICK, WA - We have an update on a longtime Kennewick business that's making plans for a bigger and better home. Eileen sent me an email asking, "when is something going to be done with the burned building at Clearwater and Neel Street? It's been like that for more than a year."
It's actually been a little more than a year. The former home of Kennewick Vision Care was destroyed in an early morning fire on April 27th, 2013. We talked with the owners this week. They've moved the business into a temporary home on Morain Street, and they're making plans to rebuild a bigger and better clinic on the old site. But it's taken a while to negotiate with the insurance companies, and now they're just waiting to get their building permits approved.
"Our architect is working with the City of Kennewick, and working their way through the planning department and the building department. I think we all have the same goal of getting rid of the burned down building and starting building as soon as possible, but these things just take time," said LoAnn Ayers with Kennewick Vision Care.
The new facility will be two stories, and almost twice as big as the old clinic. Ayers says they hope to get their permits approved in the next couple months, and then they'll tear down and demolish the old building. They hope to move into their new, expanded building sometime next spring.
