Benton, Umatilla Co. Deputies Rescue Three From Columbia River

Posted: Updated:
HERMISTON, OR - Three people are safe after becoming stranded on the Columbia River between the Washington border and the Sand Station Recreation Area.

UCSO Marine Patrol Sergeant Dave Johnson last Friday launched his boat out to save the three in very windy conditions with five foot swells on the river. He safely rescued Roel Guzman, 20, Sara Rolon, 21, and Alexander Rolon, 16.

Sgt. Johnson noted the group was in a very small raft without enough life jackets. He also said the river conditions that day were too hazardous for a small raft.

The Umatilla County Sheriff's Office wants to remind residents to be careful on the water and always pay attention to the weather and water conditions. Also, always have life jackets for every person in the boat.
