Money Found Hidden in Former Ravalli Co. Treasurer's Office

HAMILTON -

Ravalli County Sheriff's detectives have discovered checks and currency totaling $5,367.34 hidden in former Ravalli County Treasurer Valerie Stamey's office. They were discovered lodged between the desk and office wall.

These items account for the last of the deposits reported missing from the time Ms. Stamey was appointed Treasurer. A search of the office in late January located approximately $780,000 in un-deposited checks and currency.

This latest search was conducted at the request of Ravalli County Attorney Bill Fulbright and under the direction of Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman.

No evidence of criminal conduct was discovered during Tuesday’s search. Sheriff Hoffman stated, “Had any evidence of criminal conduct been found, the search would have immediately ceased, and I would have contacted the Montana Department of Justice to request an investigation.”
