KENNEWICK, WA – Independence Day celebrations got started early Friday at Columbia Park for the River of Fire Festival.

Kids and their families played carnival games, checked out a petting zoo and bounced around on a number of jumping inflatables. The Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted the event and they say it is their way of getting the community ready for the big fireworks display at night.

"It's such a tradition in the community and it's great to have the opportunity to be part of the event. The fireworks are lighting off the barge and we bring thousands of people down to the park; not only locals but out of town visitors are coming in," said Lisa Nelson one of the event directors from the chamber.

People come from all around the region to take in what is known as Southeast Washington’s biggest 4th of July fireworks show.
