Posted: Updated:

BENTON COUNTY, WA - The Benton County Sheriff's Office said two boats suffered damage while out on the Columbia River Friday night.

A deputy from the Benton County Sheriff's Office said both boats were headed back home after the fireworks display.

They also said the wind played a factor in rocking the water causing it to get inside the boats.

Crews from the Benton County Sheriff's Office responded around 11:30 p.m. to a mayday call near Port Kelly road on the Walla Walla side of the river, everyone got out okay at the Walla Walla Yacht club. Deputies said that boat sank.

Then around 12:15 a.m. deputies responded to another sinking boat.

This time six people including a 10-year-old child were able to beach their boat on a small island after they hit big waves. No one was hurt and they were picked up on Ayers road in Finley..

Crews will be out Saturday working to recover both vessels.
