U-Pick Festival Brings International Crowd to Yakima

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA. -- It's cherry season and growers expect a big yield this year. And it looks like people are looking forward to chowing down.

Saturday, Barrett Family Orchards opened their grounds to hundreds of hungry shoppers. The U-Pick Festival included tractor rides, pit spitting competitions and of course thousands of cherries ripe for the picking.

Organizers say an event like this brings in crowds from all over the world.

"I think people like to have a hands on experience," Kristin Westbay said. "To come and have their kids come in and pick them and then you know they sneak a few here and there. So you know they get to taste the fresh cherry right off of the tree."

If you want to check out the festival, it's not too late. They'll be open again Sunday morning starting at 10 o'clock.
