Indians Fall To Vancouver Live On SWX

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Spokane Indians were never fully able to get the bats going verse Vancouver starting pitcher Miguel Castro and the rest of the Canadians staff en route to a 5-1 loss at Avista Stadium on Saturday, July 5.

Vancouver (14-9) were able to jump out to an early 3-0 lead off the Indians' (16-7) starter Derek Thompson thanks to Jonathan Davis lifting a two-run  home run to right field in the second and added a run in the third inning when Roemon Fields came in to score on a sac fly by Ryan McBroom after working his way around the bases following a single to right field

After giving up the early runs Thompson (1-4)  settled into a grove, tossing six strike outs, but it was too little too late for Spokane.

The Indians cut the lead to two in the bottom of the fourth on a Luke Tendler RBI double that scored Seth Spivey from first after he reached on an error by McBroom. That was all the offense Spokane could string together vs. Castro and Co.

Vancouver would go on to tack on two more runs in the seventh off when Ryan Metzler and Fields hit back-to-back doubles to bring Metzler across to score the penultimate run, with Fields scoring off of a McBroom single later in the frame off of Spokane reliever Austin Pettibone.

Castro (3-1) earned the win, pitching 5 innings and allowing only 1 unearned run to go with 6 strikeouts.

Both teams will take to the field in the series finale tomorrow, July 6, at Avista Stadium at 3:30 p.m. PDT. Reed Garrett (1-0, 3.38) will have the mound for Spokane, while Zak Wasilewski (2-0, 2.53) will man the rubber for the visiting Canadians.
