Spokane, WA – The Northwest League announced that third baseman Jose Trevino of the Spokane Indians has been named Player of the Week for June 30-July 6. Trevino went 10-of-28 to produce an impressive slash line of .357/.419/.893 in the seven games played. The Oral Roberts product racked up two doubles, two triples, three home runs, 10 RBI and eight runs in the seven-game stretch.

Following the announcement, Trevino went to Twitter to give recognition to his teammates:

“@JoseTrevino5: it's an honor. Thanks to my teammates cause without them this wouldn't be possible.”

Trevino, the Texas Rangers’ sixth-round pick in the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft, has been a key cog in the Indians’ early-season success. The current league leader in home runs with five is one of five Spokane players with an average above the .300 mark; Trevino is third, hitting .333. He has played multiple positions this season, spending time at catcher, second base, third base and shortstop. Trevino holds the team lead in games (22), at-bats (91), runs (18), hits (29), doubles (8), triples (2), home runs (5), total bases (56) and slugging (.615).

At Oral Roberts, Trevino was named to first team Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Baseball America. He helped carry the Golden Eagles to the Summit League title in 2012 by leading the team with 10 homers and 43 RBI.

Trevino is the third Oral Roberts player to be drafted by the Rangers and assigned to Spokane for their first season of professional baseball, joining Alex “Chi-Chi” Gonzalez (2013) and Cam Schiller (2012-13).

Miguel Castro of the Vancouver Canadians earned NWL Pitcher of the Week honors.
