PASCO, WA - Firefighters in Pasco quickly put out a fire along a fence before it could spread to nearby houses Monday afternoon.  The fence runs between Interstate 182 and Lucas Park at the north end of 14th Avenue.

Crews arrived around 3:30 to find flames burning vines in a chain link fence. The fire destroyed one power pole and scorched another.

Firefighters say the wind kicked up a bit forcing them to use aggressive tactics to keep the flames from spreading to houses close by. No word on what how the fire started.

Battalion Chief Dave Hare said, "It's real important over the next week as we see temperatures in the 100 degree range that the public is very aware of the dry conditions and the weather that's upcoming, because we're going to see a lot of fire activity."

Franklin PUD workers were also called to the scene to deal with a power line that went down in an alley.
