SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Spokane Indians came into the game their first rivalry clash of the season wanting to take it to the Tri-City Dust Devils. Spokane accomplished just that with a season-high 19 hits in a 16-4 drudging of Tri-City at Avista Stadium on Tuesday, July 8.

Cesar Galvez scored the Dust Devils (10-15) first run after reaching on a swinging bunt, coming in to score a few batters later on a Miguel Dilone, to take an early 1-0 lead over the Indians (18-7).

It didn't last long verse the top hitting team in the Northwest League. Spokane batted through the order and scored seven runs in response to the early deficit and set the tone for the rest of the game.

With two outs and two men on in the bottom of the first and one run across, Tri-City starter Ryan Warner walked Marcus Greene and then Zach Cone to give the Indians a 2-1 lead. With the bases still loaded Juremi Profar singled off of Dust Devil third baseman Josh Fuentes' glove to score two more Indians. Fernando Vivili's RBI single to make it 5-1 ended Warner's night and the Indians would score again twice more in the frame.

Spokane struck a claim for another big inning in the bottom of the third, scoring five more runs, all of them coming with two outs. Cone doubled off the left field wall to lead off the inning and it looked like he would be stranded. Enter Eduard Pinto with his second RBI of the game, this one a single to center to score Cone and start the two-out rally. After Seth Spivey and Jose Trevino earned RBI, Luke Tendler lined a two-RBI shot down the right field line to plate them both and give the Indians a 12-1 lead after the third.

The Dust Devils scored three in the fifth but couldn't muster any runs off of the Indians relievers after starter Andrew Barnett finished with 5 innings pitched, allowed 7 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned runs but still earned the win thanks to Spokane's offensive onslaught.

The Indians scored two in the fifth and two more in the seventh to round out the scoring.

Pinto, Profar and Tendler each brought in three runs, while Trevino finished with two RBI and three runs to lead Spokane's offense. Spivey finished 4-for-5 with 1 RBI and 1 run. The Indians bullpen combination of Darrell Hunter, Chris Dula and Luis Pollorena combined for four innings of scoreless relief in the win.

Galvez ended up going 3-for-5 with an RBI and 2 runs for Tri-City. The Dust Devils finished with 11 hits but were plagued with 4 errors.

Both teams will meet again in game two of a three-game series at 6:30 p.m. PDT with former Spokane Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres great Steve Garvey will return to Avista to throw out the first pitch and watch his son, Ryan Garvey, play for the Dust Devils.
