KENNEWICK, WA - Scam Jam 2014 took over the Three Rivers Convention Center Wednesday morning. Dozens of people packed a conference room learning all about scams and how to avoid them.
AARP hosted the even through their Fraud Watch Network program and speakers throughout the morning touched on subjects ranging from 'Today's Leading Scams' to 'Emotional Investing.'
Washington Attorney Bob Ferguson also took the stage. He shared his top consumer protection tips with the crowd. He said scams are becoming more prevalent these days..
"We often see it more now because of the internet. There's a new forum for folks to try and scam you in an impersonal way. They can do it via the telephone, but now with the internet we see it's very common. That's why it's really critically important to have meetings like this," said Ferguson.
Some good advice from the talks: don't open emails from unknown sources, don't click on pop-up ads, and don't sign up for free trial offers.
