UNION GAP, Wash. - Marijuana stores officially opened in Washington Tuesday but not everyone was ready to open their doors. Station 420 in Union Gap saw its first customers Wednesday and not everything went according to plan.

It was a big day in Union Gap. The lines are gone now but earlier they stretched around the corner. Many people waited in the heat for over an hour, just to be a part of history.

These people are waiting to make history, albeit a day later.

"I mean I don't even know how to explain it," Emilio Lopez said. "I can't explain the feeling of being the first person to come in here."

"How does it feel that you're going to be apart of history?" we asked.

"Well that's what I'm doing," Tom Cox said. "That's why I'm going it. It's just cool. It's cool."

And boy did they wait, and wait, and wait. The store's opening of one o'clock was pushed back even more when the processor's truck got caught in Seattle traffic and showed up 3 hours later than expected.

Owner Adam Marcus tried to make the best of the situation, buying cold water bottles out of his own pocket and taking pictures with his patient customers.

"We want them to know that I'm grateful for them," Marcus said. "I want them to know that this is a place that they're welcome to come in."

When the wait finally ended just after 2 o'clock, customers were welcomed into more of an experience than a store with marijuana themed movies and a place to write on your dollar and place it on the wall.

"They're coming here to buy a product to have a good time," Marcus said. "And it should be fun to come here and do that."

And just like that, history was made.

"How cool is this?" Marcus asked. "We're a part of something that's taking place in the United States that never has happened before."

"It was nice to be able to go into a store and buy legal pot," Lopez said. "You know I would probably do it again."

Later, people will talk about this moment. What they will say is anyone's guess. But one thing's for sure, these people won't ever forget it.

Marcus says the store plans to sell up to a pound of product a day to make sure there's enough in stock to go around.
