MOXEE, WA - For years, Yakima County officials have had to share a shooting range for their training, but that all changed Wednesday when they opened their first certified shooting range.

They're excited to test out the new range, but mostly, they say this range will be a space of their own to try out different training exercises and really get hands on experience with their equipment.

The range is only open to Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies and Department of Corrections Officers to use.

One side of the range will be for stationary target practice, while the other could be used for moving targets and different training exercises. The Sheriff thinks this experience will help his deputies keep our county safe.

"Well the better trained we are, the safer the public is and we are also," Sheriff Ken Irwin said.

Before, these county officers shared a range at the Yakima Training Center where they could get kicked out at any time since military officials had precedent.

Now this 200 thousand dollar range will give them a place of their own to be creative with.
