JUST ASK SHANE: Update on Roundabout Construction at 45th & Olympia
KENNEWICK, WA - We have an update on a road construction project that a lot of you have been wondering about. Denise sent me an email asking, "When on earth are they going to pave the roundabout and the hill up Olympia Street?"
We talked with the City of Kennewick this week, and they shared some good news. The paving of the roundabout at 45th Avenue and Olympia Street, along with the stretch up the hill to SR-397 should begin at the end of this month.
The city says the year-long project is actually right on schedule. It started back in October, and involves a lot more than just the roundabout. Crews extended sewer services in the area, widened the bridge over the irrigation canal located between 45th Avenue and SR-397, and installed new curbs, gutters and sidewalks. These were all things that needed to be done before the paving could begin.
"The community and especially the people living near the construction are anxious for it to be done, and we are too. It's going to be a great project and will be well received when it's done. We'll have a nice new section of roadway all the way from 27th to state route 397," said Evelyn Lusignan, spokesperson for the City of Kennewick.
The stretch of Olympia Street between 27th Avenue and 45th Avenue will get repaved as well, and the project should be completely finished by October.
