PASCO, WA - While there were some very scary moments for neighbors in West Pasco on Wednesday night, police were having some trouble of their own.
At a press conference on Thursday, Benton County Sheriff Steve Keane and Pasco Police Chief Bob Metzger detailed the issues with their dispatch systems. Benton and Franklin Counties work on different frequencies and that caused something of a communication breakdown Wednesday night.
"They don't know where they were coming. We had two different dispatch systems that we were working under so we had particularly one commander, Commander Childs from Kennewick, who had a bullet come within a foot of his head as he's coming in. Not knowing where the scene was because we couldn't communicate," said Chief Metzger.
County commissioners and law enforcement agencies have been in talks to consolidate the dispatch centers and make a regional one. A plan should be finalized by the end of this summer.
