COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- The first-ever Hockey Fest at Frontier Ice Arena in Coeur d'Alene took over the ice and there were plenty of goals and plenty of stars in the charity exhibition.

With the proceeds of the event going to benefit the non-profit arena, Hockey Fest will bring money to local youth hockey opportunities like the Learn-to-Play Hockey program where Frontier "checks out all of the equipment to the players so the parents don't have to fork out all of the money to find out if their kid likes hockey or not," Frontier Ice Arena General Manager Vince Hughes explained.

Pro players in attendance included Spokane's own Tyler Johnson, "The Great One" himself, Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull and many more.

The money brought in from the event will also be put towards improving Frontier Ice Arena.

"The proceeds help the non-profit that owns the rink to finish the building," Hughes said. "As you can see at the end of the lobby there are a few windows aren't done. There are several projects we're still working on. It will also help kid's that need scholarships to play hockey."

Following the Johnny Hockey Skills Camp and Stick and Puck with WHL/NHL stars the NHL Legends vs. Local stars game took place. In the two-half exhibition the Legends overcame a 4-1 first-half deficit to win 6-5 thanks to a late minute goal.

Jerseys from the game will be auctioned off to raise money for the above purposes as well. While the figures aren't in yet, the amount of happy faces and fans that attended the game prove that this event was an instant success.
