KENNEWICK, WA - If you have stopped by the Water Follies office lately you may have seen an interesting display, a mannequin of Jack Schafer Jr.
Chester Lepinski said "in 2000 I got an email from Jack Schafer Jr. stating that he used to drive that boat," talking about the U-3 Miss Tri-Cities hydroplane.
"So I called him on the phone and asked him if he had anything from that year that he could send up to me," Lepinski said.
That year was 1979, Tri-Cities local, Ken Thompson owned the U-3 Miss Tri-Cities.
"About a month later, I got a great big box on my door,"
It was full of pictures, newspaper articles and a team uniform.
"I think it's a great asset to the Tri-Cities because the U-3 Miss Tri-Cities was owned by Ken Thompson and had been the only hydroplane unlimited that had been owned by a local person and I said okay lets keep it local here and let the local people enjoy it," Lepinski said.
Organizers at the Tri-Cities Water Follies Office hope to have the mannequin displayed at the new REACH center sometime in the next two weeks.
