NBCRightNow.com - Staff at the Department of Transportation said a six-mile stretch of State Route 14 is closed in both directions right now because of a brush fire near the Washington-Oregon border.

Firefighters are trying to figure out what started the fire outside of Lyle in Klickitat County.

Staff at the State Department of Natural Resources said the fire covers about 20-acres.

They have not said if the fire is threatening any homes, but so far no injuries have been reported.

The department of transportation is not sure when the highway will reopen.

Firefighters in Chelan County said they are gaining the upper hand on a wildfire burning near Entiat.

A fire spokesperson said the Mills Canyon Fire burned 22,000 acres, but as of Tuesday morning, it is more than 30-percent contained.

It has forced about 40 families to evacuate and another 500 families are prepared to leave.

Fire crews are trying to figure out what sparked another fire just south of The Dalles.

The White River Fire has burned nearly 600 acres of dry brush and timber, but this one currently 65-percent contained.

A firefighter working on the flames inside the canyon suffered a heat-related illness Monday afternoon. Paramedics took him to the hospital where he was treated and released.
