KENNEWICK, WA – Kennewick Police are looking for people involved in a shooting Monday night. Police say several gang members fired at least two dozen shots at each other at an apartment complex at 21st Avenue and Rainier Street.

Officers say some people involved in the shooting drove and ran off when police arrived, but three people stayed inside one apartment. Police say when the three wouldn’t come out, officers called in the Tri-City Regional SWAT team.

Ultimately those three people surrendered peacefully. Police say two of them are documented gang members. Officers say the evidence at the scene confirms the shooting is related to gangs.

Police say no one was shot in the incident, but the gunfire hit several neighboring homes, and a 36-year-old woman suffered a minor injury to her head when a bullet hit her car window. Officers say there were two young children in the car at the time. They both laid flat on the floor and didn’t get hurt, even though gunfire hit the car several times.

Police say a gang member who was on the “victim” side of the shooting crashed a car a few blocks away near 15th and Vancouver. He wasn’t injured.

Officers say there are several witnesses that saw the event and are helping investigators piece together information. However, all the people directly involved in the shooting have been uncooperative with police.

This is the same area where police arrested 33-year-old Jorge Garcia Jr. on Friday, after he held two women against their will and barricaded himself inside an apartment for close to 7 hours. Police have not said if the two situations are at all related.
