NBCRightNow.com - As temperatures continue to climb, so does the risk of overheating your car.

NBC Right Now caught up with some auto experts to get some tips on how to keep you and you car in the clear.

The first step is just keeping an eye on what's going on under your hood. The cooling fans that work to keep the engine from overheating can sometimes be running at slower speeds than the engine needs. Also, taking a peek at those coolant levels is recommended if you want to avoid any problems with your radiator.

"When it's hot it puts more stress on the engine. Obviously you have high engine bay temperatures so you just want to keep an eye on that. Turning air conditioning on can put more of a stress on your...put more heat under the engine bay," said Ben Gatewood who is the auto technician foreman at Meyers Auto Tech in Kennewick.

The most common repair this time of year is the air conditioning. Between all that hot summer fun you will want to crank up the AC as soon as you get in the car, but that can push your vehicle over the limit.

If you see that temperature gauge climbing up higher than the half way mark, technicians say it might be worth a trip to the repair shop.
