YAKIMA, WA - A family of 11 needs a place to stay after a fire destroyed their home this week. It happened Tuesday on the 600 block of North Second Street. No one was injured, but the family feels ripped apart.

It's something an 8-year-old should never have to do, walk through his home and pick up the pieces.

"I was playing games and then the alarm over there came on and I went to go check in my mom's room and it was burning up," Alejandro Davila said.

The only things Alejandro has left are burned memories.

"My mom's favorite doll that she got from Mexico," Alejandro said. "Everything's burnt. It's sad pretty much."

The fire started in his mother's room. An air conditioning unit in the window caught fire. Victoria was the mother to 9 children inside the home. She can't believe her eyes as she sees the damage for the first time. Pictures lost forever. And all she can do is pick what's left off the ground.

"Is it worse than you thought it was going to be?" we asked.

"Yes," Victoria Davila sighs.

Victoria lived with 3 adopted children and 6 foster kids. She smiles when she sees that her fosters license survived. But cries when she thinks about the kids who have been temporarily placed into new homes.

"The hardest thing is to not have them with me," Victoria said.

In the face of tragedy it's the amazing spirit of children to still be able to play and laugh despite everything they've lost.

Victoria hopes that insurance will help cover the damage to the home and that she can move back in with her kids as soon as possible.
