25 Vehicle Pileup Closes Interstate 90 in Kittitas County

UPDATE/KITTITAS COUNTY, WA. - The Washington State Department of Transportation estimates the eastbound lanes of I-90 near vantage will reopen around 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Crews closed the lanes Thursday after a pileup collision due to blowing dust and poor visibility.

VANTAGE, WA - The Washington state Patrol says more than 20 cars and semi-trucks crashed in an Interstate 90 pile up Thursday morning, leaving 11 people injured.
   
Trooper Darren Wright says the pile up happened just before 11 a.m. near Vantage, Washington. He says there are serious injuries among the 11 people hurt.
   
While crews clean up and troopers investigate, eastbound I-90 has been closed at mile post 116. Wright says the closure will last for hours.  Westbound traffic was temporarily closed as well.
   
Wright says it's not known yet how the pile up started. It involves 15 passenger cars and 6 semi-trucks.
   
He says visibility may have been a factor, but it's too early to say.
   
A wildfire forced the closure of a 20-mile stretch of the highway on Tuesday after a blaze jumped containment lines. The highway reopened later.

KITTITAS COUNTY, WA - The Department of Transportation says Interstate 90 is closed between Kittitas and the Vantage Bridge because of an accident involving multiple vehicles. 
The DOT says the visibility is limited due to dust and smoke over the roadway. 

No word yet on any injuries, or when I-90 will open again.
