Firefighters Caution People to Not Start Fires

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA - Much of eastern Washington remained under a red flag warning Friday evening, through 11 p.m. The fire danger is high to extreme in most places.

Even after the red flag warning expires conditions will still be dry and fairly hot. Firefighters want to remind you to be cautious in your daily activities so you don't start a wildfire.

"People have got to be careful. If they're off-roading vehicles, firing weapons out in the terrain, mowing the lawn near dry grass... You have got a responsibility to try to limit fire and to have a green space around your structure," said Kennewick Fire Department Battalion Chief Tod Kreutz.

If you do have to use power tools or anything else that may cause a spark, you should have a water source available.
