Two people were taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries after a two car collision in Yakima Sunday. Two people were taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries after a two car collision in Yakima Sunday.

PRESS RELEASE FROM YPD - At approximately 11:45am on the morning of July 20, 2014 Yakima Police were called to the intersection of N. 11th Avenue and Summitview Avenue to respond to a two car collision.  Officers arrived and found that a white 2005 Chevrolet Malibu had been travelling northbound on N. 11th Avenue and a Gray 2014 Lexus RX350 had been travelling eastbound on Summitview Avenue.  The driver of the Malibu failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with the Lexus.  Both drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment.  The driver of the Lexus sustained a broken arm and the driver of the Malibu suffered head injuries, believed to be non life threatening.


The driver of the Malibu was identified as 34 year old Christian Cordova of Yakima and the driver of the Lexus was identified as 44 year old Catherine Lighty, also of Yakima.

A preliminary investigation indicated that alcohol was a contributing factor in this collision.

The Yakima Police Department Traffic Division is investigating.
