Yakima Red Cross Sends Volunteer to Help Pateros Fire Victims

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA. -- The devastation is worse than you can even imagine in Pateros. In some areas, practically every other home has been burned to the ground. The feeling of lost and heartbreak for those people is indescribable. They really could use all the help they can get.

And that's what Cody Tusler is going to do, help in any way possible.

Cody is in the warehousing department of the Red Cross. So in Pateros, he'll be helping organize all the donations and see to it that it goes to the right place.

He's been to a lot of disaster zones over the years, but in Pateros, he says he doesn't know what exactly he'll experience up there.

"I'm not sure what to expect," Cody Tusler said. "I know that the Taylor Bridge was an interesting fire. We had a lot of homes destroyed there but I guess the homes up there are worse, if that's possible. I just don't know what to expect."

Cody says he'll be down there for 15 days before he heads back to Yakima. The Red Cross tells me that Cody will be the only volunteer heading down from our chapter.

With possibly lightning in the forecast, they want to be ready in case a fire breaks out around our area. Right now, Pateros needs so much for so many people and its nice to see our local organizations helping out.
