Police Dog Yosh Dies in Umatilla County

Posted: Updated:
PRESS RELEASE FROM UMATILLA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office is sad to report that police canine Yosh passed away this afternoon after a sudden, unknown illness. Yosh was a handsome, well-trained, nine-year old German Shepherd. As a police dog, he was trained specifically to assist law-enforcement personnel in their work, such as locating and apprehending criminal suspects, searching for drugs and explosives, searching for lost people, looking for crime scene evidence, and protecting his handlers.

Yosh faithfully served the citizens of Umatilla County for over a year under the supervision of his handler, Deputy Lindsey Ballard. After experiencing medical problems in 2013, Yosh retired with honor to Deputy Ballard’s home in June 2014.

During his tour of duty, Yosh’s tracking skills helped to locate and capture many criminal suspects, and his presence was instrumental in capturing murder suspect, Lukah Chang in Pendleton.

We thank K-9 Yosh and Deputy Ballard for their work and commitment to protecting and serving. Yosh will be greatly missed!
