Lockheed Martin Designs Water Follies Logo for 10th Year Running

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA - Every year a new design is plastered over all things Water Follies. For ten years running now, the logo has been created by a team at Lockheed Martin. For the 49th anniversary of Water Follies, it is pretty artistic.

Jason Fitzgerald from Lockheed Martin has been the driving force behind these logos for eight out of the ten years the company has designed it. It shows a modern hydroplane boat with an old school paint job and a plane for the air show. The number U-49 is a play on the 49th anniversary.

There is some irony, too. The boat pictured is a Lockheed T-33. It will also be in the races this weekend.

Designer Fitzgerald said he is a hydro fan and thoroughly enjoys helping create the logos. Event director Kathy Powell said she came up with the U-49 idea.

"Everybody is excited to collect their memorabilia for their weekend at the Tri-Cities Water Follies. So yes, they come in looking for those T-shirts, looking for the challenge coins. Anything they can collect and keep from year to year," said Powell.
