PASCO, WA - You'll see them up in the air all weekend doing tricks around the Tri-Cities, but NBC Right Now got up close with some of the planes from the HAPO Over The River Air Show.

"I'm going to show the handling characteristics of the aircraft, it's roll rate, climb rate and ability to maneuver in the wind," said solo aerobatics pilot Mark Peterson.

Our Tri-Cities windy conditions are no match for the experienced pilots. They've flown in much worse conditions and they're equipped to tackle just about anything that mother nature could throw at them at a moment's notice.

"In reality you get the airplane off the ground and it doesn't care much about which way the wind's blowing, only when the wind changes direction it tends to get an airplane's attention."

There are the trick planes, the ones that cut through the skies in daring ways and then there are more of the classic calmer flights.

"It started as a C-47 which is the cargo variant of this aircraft that was used during WWII and throughout," explained Dan Blanchard from Historic Flight Foundation.

The DC3 was refitted about half a century ago by the Johnson & Johnson Company to carry passengers comfortably. It once served our nation and now it's serving executive style rides through the sky for anyone who sets up a flight.

"Just about any time I'm getting in the airplane is my favorite time," Peterson said. "I guess if I had to pick one maneuver, it'd be an inverted pass. Going 500 mph 250 feet upside down over the river is a lot of fun."
