Fugitive profiled on CNN's 'The Hunt' killed in NYC shootout

NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say a sex-assault suspect got in a shootout with law enforcement in New York City that left the suspect dead and two federal marshals and a police officer wounded.
    
The U.S. Marshals Service says it happened in the West Village when a fugitive apprehension task force tried to make an arrest.

The mayor and police commissioner say the suspect, 32-year-old Charles Mozdir, is dead.

A $1 million bench warrant was issued for Mozdir in June 2012 after he skipped an arraignment in San Diego Superior Court on child sexual assault charges.

His case had recently been featured on CNN's "The Hunt with John Walsh." Mozdir was accused of abusing a young boy while babysitting him. Authorities said they later found evidence of child pornography and bestiality on his cellphone and computers.

The law enforcement officials' exact injuries are unclear. Mayor Bill de Blasio says the three are stable and that, "We pray everything we are hearing is true and that these officers will be OK in the long run."
    
Authorities say the suspect was wanted in a sexual assault case.

    LONDON (AP) - A Scottish man who filmed a dog appearing to give Nazi salutes has been convicted of a hate crime and fined.    Mark Meechan filmed his girlfriend's pug responding to phrases such as "sieg heil" by raising its paw, and posted the footage on YouTube in 2016.    Meechan said the stunt was meant as a joke, but he was convicted last month of posting "grossly offensive" material.
