YAKIMA, WA - Summertime is road construction time in the Pacific Northwest, and the City of Yakima is right in the middle of a road resurfacing project that seems to be never-ending for many of you.

In fact, Kent sent us a Facebook message asking, "When will the city be done with all the 'awesome' road projects, and will they fix the grooves at the intersection of 40th and Nob Hill Boulevard?"

We talked with Yakima city manager Tony O'Rourke this week, and he told us that the paving crews are right on schedule, but the work will continue until late September.  The city is re-paving 90 miles worth of city streets this year, which is about three times more than they re-paved last year.

The project started back in May, and all of the work is being done at night so the impact to traffic flow is minimal.  As for the grooves Kent mentioned, that's all part of the process.  The crews use machines to grind up the current layer of asphalt, which leaves the exposed grooves.  Then, they'll re-pave it with a brand new smooth layer of new asphalt.

The city of Yakima has set up a webpage to keep everyone up to date on the re-paving project.  You can check it out by clicking here.
