The Seattle Mariners have acquired center fielder Austin Jackson from the Detroit Tigers as part of the three-team trade that sent 2012 Cy Young award winner David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays to Detroit, as confirmed by ESPN's Jayson Stark

The Mariners sent infielder Nick Franklin to Tampa Bay as part of the deal, while it is reported that Detroit sent left hand pitcher Drew Smyly and infield prospect Willy Adames to complete the haul for Price.

In Jackson the Mariners get the consistent outfield bat they've been missing throughout the season. He is batting .273 this season with 25 doubles and 4 home runs and is a career .277 hitter with his best average coming in 2012 when he hit .300. Jackson was the 2010 Rookie of the Year runner-up to Texas Rangers relief pitcher Neftali Feliz.

Jackson was pulled from the lineup on Wednesday and was seen hugging teammates before heading to the locker room according to ESPN.com. Smyly started the game and went five innings giving up four runs and 11 hits before being pulled.

The deal was struck right before the 4:00 p.m. EDT MLB non-waiver trade deadline on Thursday.

The Mariners also landed San Diego Padres OF Chris Denorfia for for RHP Stephen Kohlscheen and OF Abraham Almonte.

Denorfia is hitting .242 this season with 1 HR and 16 RBI in 268 plate appearances. The nine-year pro is a career .275 batter with a career on base percentage of .335 playing for the Cincinatti Reds, Oakland A's and Padres.

The move for Denorfia comes because of his excellent track record against left-handed pitching, as explained by the Seattle Times. With most of manager Lloyd McClendon's options on the bench and in the lineup being lefties, Denorfia provides a solid righty bat with some pop against LHP's.
