JUST ASK SHANE: Update on M Hotel in Richland

Posted: Updated:
RICHLAND, WA - A lot of you have sent me emails recently wanting to know what's happening with the M Hotel in Richland, which closed its doors last fall.

Donna sent me an email asking, "What's going on with the M Hotel in Richland?  Ever since it was closed down, the ground is getting bad with overgrown weeds and dead grass.  It's a sight to see while driving down George Washington Way."

Donna's right.  If you drive down George Washington Way, you can see all the weeds growing around the empty parking lot, and the dead grass in front of the building.  We talked with the City of Richland about it, and learned that the code enforcement officer does have a case open on the hotel, but they're having trouble finding a responsible party who will comply with their requests to clean up the property.

The original owners have filed for bankruptcy, and a bank has now taken over the property.  The city says that code enforcement is working with the city attorney's office now to find a responsible party, but it's a long, time-consuming process.  The city also says they haven't gotten any inquiries about any potential new uses for the property.
