SPOKANE, Wash. -- Spokane dropped its third game in a row on Thursday night as the Hillsboro Hops rode a four-run first inning to a 5-3 victory at Avista Stadium.

Indians' starter Derek Thompson gave up four runs on four back-to-back hits to open the game. Thompson settled down over after the problematic first frame, giving up only three more hits and one run over the next four innings. He posted six strikeouts on the night—all of which came within a eight-batter stretch from the first through third innings. Thompson's ERA on the season stands at 3.91.

After the Hops' Taylor Ratliff singled to open the game, Steve Nyisztor and Kevin Cron delivered back-to-back doubles to give Hillsboro a quick 2-0 lead. Grant Heyman then crushed a two-run home run to left-center to put the Hops up 4-0.

Spokane answered in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own, thanks to a Luke Tendler double that scored Eduard Pinto after he hit his own leadoff double of his own. A wild pitch sent Tendler to third, he went on to score later in the frame when Jose Trevnio grounded into a double play following a Seth Spivey walk.

Spokane's Shane McCain and Darrell Hunter pitched four innings of one-hit relief to close out the game for Spokane. The pair also combined for four strikeouts.

Hillsboro starter Austin Platt went 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits. Spokane added a third run in the sixth inning, when Diego Cedeno singled to bring in Isiah Kiner-Falefa to chase out the Hops' starter.

Tendler and Isiah Kiner-Falefa had two hits apiece for the Indians. Both Spivey and Trevino made diving catches on the infield to keep it close late in the game

The Indians and Hillsboro continue the five-game series Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at Avista Stadium live on SWX. Nick Baker is scheduled to start for the Hops. Austin Pettibone will be on the bump for Spokane.
