SPOKANE, Wash., -- Spokane’s comeback fell short against Hillsboro as the Indians fell 12-9 to the Hops in front of 7,031 fans at Avista Stadium. It was Fireworks Night presented by The Black Book, 93.7 The Mountain and SportsRadio 1510 KGA.

The game began with a bang, as a wind storm hit Spokane minutes before first pitch. Hillsboro scored six runs on three home runs in the first inning off of Indians starter Andrew Barnett. Barnett only tossed four innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, but struck out six Hops.

Spokane didn’t wait long to fight back, as the team’s first three batters reached base to load the bases for Luke Tendler. Tendler hit a grand slam to right field to bring the Indians within reach, 6-4. After that, however, Spokane’s offensive attack stalled as they left seven runners on base through the remaining eight frames. Spokane did score one more run in the sixth when Seth Spivey doubled home Eduard Pinto.

David Perez gave up three earned runs in two innings of relief. In his first 11 innings of work this season, Perez didn’t allow a run. In the past six innings, Perez has given up six runs. Luis Pollorena pitched a scoreless eighth, and Adam Parks allowed one run in the ninth, respectively.

The Indians would score three runs in the bottom of the ninth, on an error, wild pitch and fielder’s choice, but it wasn’t enough.

Steve Nyisztor was the hero for the Hops, as the second baseman had four RBI off of a home run and a triple.

The Indians conclude the Hillsboro series tomorrow, Sunday, August 3, at a special 3:30 PM start time, for Breast Cancer Awareness Day Game presented by Mike’s Hard Pink Lemonade, Rock 94 ½ and KXLY NewsRadio 920. The Indians ask you to join us in the fight against Breast Cancer as players will wear special edition Pink Jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game.

In addition, the Spokane Indians will host the pre-game Pitch for the Cure walk, courtesy of Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade, leading onto the field for the National Anthem. All proceeds benefit the Eastern Washington Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Stay after the game to play catch on the field courtesy of Cloverdale Foods!
