Football in Bozeman is back as the Bobcats returned to the football field with the start of fall camp.
With game one less than a month away, Bobcat football is back on the gridiron and they started today with day one of fall camp.
"It's nice to be back. The team is just ready to go,’ said senior linebacker Alex Singleton. “We're fired up. We're excited, we've been itching to play. Everyone was warming up all day. We're just ready to go."
Eleven starters return for the bobcats, while many positions will be battled for during these next few weeks.
"We have to settle on our offensive line,” said Head Coach Rob Ash. “We have to settle on our kicker. We have to decide what the defensive line is going to be. We have to look at some freshmen too, and some young players, and how some of those guys may figure in."
One of the top positions up for grabs is the quarterback spot, where junior Jake Bleskin, Dakota Prukop, and Manhattan native Quinn McQueary will compete for the job.
"Whoever the best quarterback is, is going to play,” Bleskin said. “You would be a fool if you didn't think every one of these practices is important. No matter if it's your second day on campus or if this is your fifth year. Each day is important and every player needs to come out here and act like it's important, because what you do today affects what you do in November and December."
Whoever comes out as the quarterback will have a chance to play with some experience, especially up front with the offensive line.
"Up front we're really a veteran group,” said Coach Ash. “We have four out of five starters. We have some guys that are juniors and seniors that are going to play a lot. Our tight ends are very experienced as well. So if there is any truth to the rumor that the offense starts up front where the tread meets the road with those guys in the trenches, than I think we'll be pretty good."
