Montana State Quarterbacks Competing for Starting Spot
The Montana State Bobcats football squad is two days into camp.
During the next few weeks, a handful of positions will be up for grabs.
One of those spots includes the quarterback position.
"From what our coaches are looking at, it's going to take a guy who can gel with the offense, and a guy who can be in the right place at the right time read-wise and in the passing game,” said sophomore quarterback Dakota Prukop. “In the run game, we have reads as well. So we're going to need a guy who can make plays with his feet."
Quinn McQueary, Dakota Prukop, and Jake Bleskin are competing for the starting role.
Bleskin comes in as the lone QB who played significant time last year.
The former CMR standout made starts against Colorado Mesa and Stephen F. Austin.
"I'm comfortable. I know the system that Coach Cramsey is running here,” Bleskin said. “I'm very comfortable with all the receivers we have running and all the guys on the team basically. I just look forward to going out and doing what I can to help the team."
Dakota Prukop is also competing for the job.
The Austin, Texas native redshirted a year ago, and will be competing as a sophomore.
"It's a great battle,” Prukop said. “The thing about competition is it's going to make us all better. Since I've been here I've gotten leaps and bounds better, as the other quarterbacks have as well just because of the competition."
Next is Quinn McQueary. The red shirt freshman from Manhattan missed spring ball while nursing a back injury, but he's worked himself back in shape.
"For the most part, I've been getting my back healthy,” McQueary said. “That was the biggest thing with lots of rehab on it. I've just been getting back into the flow of things with the mental part of it and just getting back to the physical part as well."
Before camp is over a starter is expected to be named, but either way, this will serve as a valuable lesson for the trio.
"I think its gone great,” said McQueary. “I think all three of us love the competition. That's one thing we do is try to strive to be better then the next person. It not only makes us better, but this whole team better. It's been very good for us."
