New Information About Snag Canyon Fire Evacuations Near Ellensburg

 Kittitas County, WA -08/04/2014 - Effective immediately, the Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center has expanded a Level 3 evacuation notice to Schnebly Canyon and Coleman Canyon due to increased fire activity from the Snag Canyon Fire. Sheriff’s deputies are currently going into the canyons to notify residents of the evacuations. Under a Level 3 notice, residents are advised to evacuate immediately.

Cooke Canyon north of the intersection of Cooke Canyon Road and Coleman Creek Road is now at a Level 2 evacuation notice.  Residents are advised to be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.  Deputies will also be making notifications in Cooke Canyon.

Colockum Pass Road and Secret Canyon Road are at a Level 1 notification.  Under this notice, residents are encouraged to begin precautionary movement of persons with special needs, mobile property, and pets and livestock.

Anyone needing the Red Cross emergency shelter can contact the EOC at 509-933-8305.  The emergency shelter for livestock and other animals remains open at the Kittitas County Fairgrounds.

A public meeting is planned for tonight at 7:00pm at Central Washington University’s Student Union Recreation Center Theater, 400 E. University Way, Ellensburg.  Representatives from the Kittitas County EOC and the Washington Incident Management Team #1 will be present to give a fire update and answer questions.  Parking is free.
