State Fire Assistance Mobilized to Battle Snag Canyon Fire Near Ellensburg

ELLENSBURG, WA. - State fire assistance has been mobilized to help battle the Snag Canyon Fire in Kittitas County, north of Ellensburg.

Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization Tuesday evening after a request from Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue.

The wildfire started after lightning in the area on August 2. So far it has scored 6,400 acres and is threatening homes and power grid infrastructure. Residents of approximately 200 homes have been evacuated.

Fire Protection Bureau mobilization specialists have also ordered four wildland task forces, consisting of five wildland engines and one water tender, to help out the current 450 firefighters.
