Tri-Cities Fever Sign Former Steeler WR to Roster

KENNEWICK, WA - The Tri-Cities Fever announced Thursday that the team has signed wide receiver J.D. Woods (6’0”, 203 lbs.) from West Virginia for the 2015 season.  Woods has NFL experience playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, appearing in three games in 2013.

During his time with the Mountaineers catching passes from Geno Smith, Woods pulled in 86 passes for 909 yards and 5 touchdowns, including one game where he caught 13 passes and 114 yards, his career high to this point.

Woods is from Naples, Florida and attended Golden Gate High School where he had 54 catches for 851 yards and eight touchdowns, while also being an all-state selection his senior year.

The Fever also signed Defensive Tackle Roland Johnson (6’5”, 310 lbs.) from the University of Minnesota to a contract. Johnson spent time after college with the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL before signing with the Fever.

Johnson was a junior college transfer who stood out in the Golden Gophers defense when he was on the field. He did miss some time at Minnesota due to a torn ACL reducing his games played.  However, he is fully recovered from it now and ready to make an impact on the Fever’s line.  Johnson is from Cassatt, South Carolina and attended Byrnes High School where he was Area Defensive Player of the Year.
