JUST ASK SHANE: Update on Empty Kennewick Strip Mall

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA - If you shop at the Kennewick Walmart, you've probably noticed the brand-new strip mall next door that's still sitting empty.  Shelley sent me an email asking, "What's the deal with the new strip mall next to Walmart in Kennewick?  It's such an attractive building, but it's been empty for awhile."

We first talked with the realtor handling the Plaza at Canyon Lakes back in January, after crews had finished the building and paved the parking lot.  We caught up with him again this week to get an update, and he says we should see at least one new business moving in within the next month or two.

They have a lease agreement with a personal training & supplements business that operates several stores in the Northwest, and he's confident other businesses aren't far behind.

"My hunch is once the first tenant goes in, once we can show some other national retailers that have shown interest that we have signed leases, it's going to be like a snowball effect, and we'll see multiple others fall into place," said Rob Ellsworth with Windermere Commercial Real Estate.

Ellsworth says they hope to get an offer from a national retailer in the next few weeks.  He expects to see a restaurant or coffee house in one of the corner spots, and possibly a clothing retailer and a financial services provider as well.  Ellsworth says the building will have a total of 8 to 12 tenants when it's full.
