First Derelict Vessel Charge from Attorney General is in Benton County

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA - The owner of a boat that sank in the Columbia River last summer will spend 20 days in jail. Brandon Traner will also have to pay restitution for abandoning the fishing crawler and spend two years on probation.

Traner pleaded guilty from the Benton County Jail Wednesday to abandoning a derelict vessel and discharge of polluting matters into state waters. A restitution hearing is scheduled for mid-September to determine the total amount Traner will have to pay the state.

The attorney general estimates the state has spent $100,000 removing and cleaning up the sunken boat.
