Snag Canyon Fire Updates

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wa.-  The Snag Canyon fire burning outside of Ellensburg has grown a bit overnight and now burned through 88-hundred acres.

The 700 plus firefighters working on the fire have been able to increase containment to 15 percent, however, the hot weather will be returning this weekend, which could cause the fire to grow again.

Officials say this has been a tough battle so far and with the new wildfire burning near Cle Elum they are stretched thin on resources and crews.

"The biggest hurdle has probably been the winds on this fire we had another red flag warning for high winds and  high temperatures, Its just very gusty up there," says Public Information Officer Kelly Stover.

The strong winds are not helping fire crews and officials hope the temperatures will drop again to help them get the upper hand on the fire.

More crews are on their way to fight the fire, along with nearly a dozen helicopters. Blackhawk helicopters from the Washington National Guard have also arrived today.
