Griz Soccer Starts Season

Posted: Updated:

The Griz football team wasn't the only sport who had their first practices this week, as the soccer squad was thrilled to be out on the pitch.

"Oh my gosh it feels so good, I am beyond excited and I know everyone else is here as well. Great energy here at practice it's always like that the first four days or so, so we just have to maintain that for the next few weeks," said senior Brooke Moody.

"It's exciting as can be it's such a long break from when we end in May until when we come here and the team is excited to be back at it and getting the season going," said Head Coach Mark Plakorus.

This is Plakorus' fourth year as Head Coach, which means it's the first time that he's coaching all the kids that he recruited and he says that familiarity will speed up the learning curve during the preseason.

"It's nice because we have all been under Mark's wings so we know the expectations and we all respect Mark so much, so being able to have that I think we will be able to produce a lot," said Moody.

"The senior class they've only known me as their coach and what we do and how we do it and that's really helping a lot because they are imparting so much knowledge on the new players and I don't have to do as much teaching because they're taking on that role," said Plakorus.

The Griz lost nearly fifty percent of their goal scoring production from a year ago, they also have thirteen freshman in the new class so the preseason will be vital.

"Huge, half our team is new so our goal this August is to, first of all, learn names. Second of all, learn how everyone plays and utilize everyone's best assets," said senior Tyler Adair.

The Griz will have their first game an exhibition match up against Carroll College on August 16th.
