MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Shannon Wheatman, president of Kinsella Media, has been named to the faculty of, and will co-lead a seminar session during, the American Antitrust Institute's upcoming judicial education conference Business Behavior and Competition Policy in the Courtroom: Current Challenges for Judges.
Dr. Wheatman will join Joshua Davis, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor, University of San Francisco School of Law, in leading a seminar session titled "Can Competition Concepts be Made Comprehensible to Juries (and Judges)?"
"Plain language is critical in ensuring that jurors understand the important instructions put before them," Wheatman said. "The jury cannot get a verdict right unless it is clearly instructed on how to apply the law."
A frequent speaker and author or co-author of 25 published articles, Dr. Wheatman has been recognized as a notice expert by courts across the United States and Canada and was instrumental in developing the plain language model notices with the Federal Judicial Center. She leads Kinsella Media's team in the design, analysis, and implementation of notice programs based on her experience in more than 300 cases. She holds a Ph.D. in social psychology and a master's in legal studies. Her doctoral dissertation was on plain language in class action notice.
Business Behavior and Competition Policy in the Courtroom: Current Challenges for Judges is hosted by the AAI in partnership with the Stanford Program in Law, Science, and Technology; the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research; and the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Twenty U.S. District Court judges are expected to attend the conference, scheduled for Aug. 14-16.
