JUST ASK SHANE: Update on Beech St. Construction in Kennewick

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA -  If you drive around Kennewick a lot, you've probably noticed that road construction signs are about as prolific as stop lights this summer.

Maddy sent me an email asking, "What's going on with the construction on 3rd Avenue between Gum Street and Washington Street? It's been blocked off for awhile.  We are really hoping it will be done soon!"

The construction Maddy is talking about is part of a major sewer line replacement project that the City of Kennewick started back in May.  The city is replacing one of its major interceptor lines that runs under Beech Street.  The project was pushed back a couple weeks last month because of an installation delay.  But crews were out at the site Tuesday preparing the roadway for re-paving.

"It's gathering our sewage before it gets to our water treatment plant and that's a major interceptor point before it reaches there.  The capacity of it is serving about one-third of our city and needed to be updated to accommodate future growth," said City of Kennewick spokesperson Evelyn Lusignan.

Lusignan says the paving of Beech Street should start Wednesday.  Once that is finished, the barriers will be removed and the roadway will be reopened to traffic.
