Foreign Workers to Arrive in Region to Harvest Apples

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA - Buses with about 500 foreign workers are due to arrive in the Yakima and Tri-City areas on Wednesday to harvest a record apple crop in Washington state.

The Washington Farm Labor Association says the visas for members of the federal H-2A guest worker program were delayed by computer issues with the State Department, but they'll probably start working in the orchards by Friday.

The Farm Labor Association says about 8,500 H-2A workers will help during the peak of the harvest, with about 1,500 of those workers still to come.
