OSP Investigating After Man Dies in Crash South of The Dalles
Oregon State Police are investigating after a fatal accident Thursday on Highway 197 south of The Dalles.
UPDATE/THE DALLES, Ore. - Oregon State Police are releasing more information on Thursday's fatal crash south of The Dalles.
Troopers say the man killed was Henry Jacob Girtz, 72 man riding in the front passenger seat. Linda Gritz, 59, the driver was Lifelighted to Oregon Health & Science University while Marina Gritz,17 another passenger was taken to a local hospital by ground.
The driver of the pickup, 73-year-old Peter Kelly, wasn't injured and is cooperating with investigators.
Troopers expect to release the names of the victims later on Thursday after the next of kin is notified. PREVIOUS COVERAGE:
THE DALLES, Ore. - Oregon State Police are investigating after a fatal accident Thursday on Highway 197 south of The Dalles.
Troopers say around 7:30 a.m., an SUV was traveling northbound on the highway near Ward Road when a pickup driver turned in front of the SUV. A man in the SUV died at the scene, another occupant was LifeFlighted to Oregon Health & Science University, the third passenger was transported to a local hospital.
The pickup truck driver was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation. No names are being released at this time.
As of 11 a.m., the Highway 197 southbound lane is closed in the area. We have no word yet on when it will reopen.
